Aínsa is well placed for access to the nearby resorts of Piau-Engaly in France and Cerler in the Benasque Valley. Both are an hour’s drive away. Piau-Engaly has a very alpine feel to it (the highest resort in the French Pyrenees) with 65 km of pistes for all levels and a huge number of off-piste areas. There are hardly ever any queues for ski lifts and their prices are very affordable.

Cross-country skiing, off-piste cross-country skiing and snowshoeing
The district has what are possibly the two most beautiful cross-country skiing areas in the Pyrenees. One is located in the heart of the Pineta Valley, while the other is at Fanlo-Nerín (Tel: + 34 974 489002), in between the two immense canyons of Añisclo and Ordesa, at an altitude of over 2,000 m. Given the particular location of the latter, it is a good idea to phone ahead to see if the road is open.
For off-piste cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, you have the entire Central Pyrenees area at your disposal. Choose the valley, mountain or forest you would prefer to move through and enjoy the white winter scenery. You can hire snowshoes, crampons and ice axes at several establishments in Aínsa, but not cross-country skis.
