Crossing the border via the Bielsa Tunnel takes you to the French Aspe Valley, one of the most beautiful and unspoilt parts of the French Pyrenees. It is an extremely green area with immense and very abrupt mountains.

Close to the border are the ski resorts of Piau-Engaly and Saint Lary. The towns of Saint Lary and Arreau are worth a visit, as is the Centre Balnea spa resort, the colossal cirque and waterfall at Gavarnie (the highest in Europe), the lakes at Barroude, and a visit to the famous mountain passes featured in the Tour de France – Col d’Aspin and Tourmalet.
